Applied Paramedic Knowledge
All employers are required to have a number of qualified First Aiders on site in proportion to the number of staff.
The Four Day Course is necessary for this requirement of the Health & Safety Regulations 1981; it is also a good comprehensive introduction to First Aid for anyone.
The contents include:
Priorities of First Aid
Duties of a First Aider
Actions in Emergencies
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
The unconscious casualty/recovery position
Treatment for wounds and bleeding
Dressings and bandages
Fractures, dislocations and soft tissue damage
Burns and Scalds
Shock
Poisoning
Choking
Heart Attack
Record Keeping
First Aid Equipment
The course ends with an assessment of skills and knowledge, and a certificate of competence is issued valid for three years. It can, shortly before expiry or up to 28 days after expiry, be renewed by completing the 2 Day refresher First Aid at Work Course.
