EFAW Courses are available on demand as they may, if more
convenient for the employer, be held on the employer's premises Organizations with comparatively low health & safety risks
where First Aiders at Work (FAW) are considered unnecessary, must still have an
Emergency First Aider (EFAW) designated
to take charge of the first aid arrangements, look after the equipment and call
the emergency services when required. This course has been designed to meet the requirements of
the person provided by the employer to take charge of a situation if an accident
or injury occurs in the absence of a First Aider at Work Where there are an adequate number of First Aiders at Work an
Emergency First Aider may only provide emergency cover when the absence of First
Aiders is due to exceptional, unforeseen and temporary circumstances. Annual
leave does not count. If assessment calls for a First Aider at Work to be provided they
should be available when the need arises. The certificate is valid for three years. Instruction is given in the following areas:
What to do in an emergency
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
First Aid for the unconscious casualty
First Aid for the wounded or bleeding
Choking - Shock. - Minor Injuries - Cross infection
Recording incidents and actions and use of available equipment
An EFAW Course is held over 1 day.
Assessment is done by the trainer continuously throughout the course.
